In what philosophers, theologians, and fans of poetic justice everywhere will agree is basically a perfect story, a burglar in Howard County managed to have his own vehicle stolen while he was busy stealing from someone else. The cosmos, it seems, has a flair for the dramatic.
The suspect — let’s call him Ambitious — broke into a local store with what we can only assume felt like a solid plan. Get in, grab the goods, hop back in the getaway car, and zoom off into a future filled with poor decisions. Step one and two apparently went fine. It was step three where things got cosmically complicated.
Because while our industrious friend was inside the store, helping himself to merchandise that wasn’t his, someone outside was helping themselves to his vehicle. Which also wasn’t theirs. The circle of crime, if you will.
Let that sink in for a moment. The getaway car. Gone. Gotten away with.
Howard County authorities arrived to find a burglarized store AND a stranded burglar, which is frankly the kind of efficiency that taxpayers love to see. Two crimes, one location, one deeply uncomfortable moment of self-reflection for a man who suddenly understood how his victims feel.
It remains unclear whether the vehicle thief knew a burglary was in progress and simply spotted an opportunity, or whether this was just the universe operating at peak efficiency. Either way, the result is the same: a would-be criminal left to contemplate his choices on foot, which is arguably the slowest possible getaway.
Police, presumably struggling to maintain professional composure, responded to the scene. Investigators are looking into both incidents, though at least one of them probably wrote up their report with a smile.
The suspect’s current status — whether apprehended, still wandering on foot, or perhaps busy having his shoes stolen — has not been fully confirmed. But karma, by all accounts, is doing just fine.
