Samantha, a cheerful blonde barista at Brew & Tell Coffee Shop, inadvertently cracked a centuries-old mathematical theorem this week while trying to figure out how many pumps of vanilla syrup to add to a customer’s latte.
“The customer wanted exactly 37.5% sweetness,” explained Samantha, twirling her golden hair thoughtfully. “So I started calculating the optimal syrup-to-coffee ratio using the golden ratio, adjusted for temperature coefficients, and somehow ended up proving Goldbach’s Conjecture.”
Mathematicians worldwide are baffled by her solution, which she wrote on a napkin between orders. The formula somehow involves the Fibonacci sequence, the number of espresso beans in a perfect shot, and what she calls “the cosmic latte principle.”
“I just wanted to make sure his drink tasted right,” Samantha shrugged, as three professors from MIT waited in line behind the amazed customer. “Though I’m still not sure if I should have used two pumps or three.”
The customer reported his latte was “transcendentally delicious,” and Samantha has been invited to lecture at Harvard, though she’s considering declining because it conflicts with her Tuesday pottery class.
